Technology around us

Grade 2 students are exploring how technology helps people work and connect.

As a Tuning In activity, they looked for pictures showing different technologies people use at home, school, and in the community.
They brainstormed ideas about the names, uses and came up with their own definition of what technology is.
Working with a partner helped students share ideas and think deeply about how technology influences our lives.
By looking at pictures and discussing their thoughts, they discovered new perspectives and became curious. Together, they came up with an interesting question about how technology helps people work and connect with others.

Grade 2 students also explored around the school to find different technologies being used. They observed who uses them and discussed their purposes.
From computers and printers to projectors and tablets, students learned how technology supports learning, communication, and work, helping everyone in the school community stay connected and productive.

Lastly, we sorted out different examples of technology.
In tiered activities, they progressed from simply grouping them to Technologies NOW and THEN.

Into a much concrete sorting such as: transportation, devices, work, school, and others.

Grade 2 students conducted an experiment on wind chimes to learn how this simple technology works.

They explored how wind creates movement and sound, discovering that people have used wind chimes for many years for decoration, relaxation, and even to tell the direction or strength of the wind. Through this activity, students understood how simple technologies can be both useful and meaningful in people’s daily lives.
After the autumn break, we will continue learning about how technology helps people connect and work together. Students will explore new ways technology supports teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
