Grade 2 students have been learning about the different ways people communicate their thoughts, ideas, and feelings.
To experience how messages can change as they are passed from one person to another, students played Broken Telephone, also known as Pass the Message.
They discovered that messages can easily get lost, changed, or misunderstood when people do not listen carefully or when information is passed on too quickly.
Through this fun activity, students learned that effective communicators are good listeners, clear speakers, patient, respectful, empathetic, confident, and attentive.
The activity helped students understand that being an effective communicator means listening carefully, choosing our words thoughtfully, and showing respect for others.
Grade 2 students also played Feelings Charades, where they acted out different emotions without using words. Their classmates had to observe their facial expressions, gestures, and body language to guess the feeling being communicated.
They discovered that communication does not always require words. Sometimes, our facial expressions, body language, actions, and gestures can communicate powerful messages.
These activities reminded students that effective communication is about both expressing ourselves clearly and listening carefully to others. By developing these qualities, we can build stronger relationships and make sure our messages and feelings are understood. They also learned that communication is not only about using words. Sometimes, words are not enough to express how we feel or what we think.
