RELATIONSHIP CIRCLES

Grade 2 explored Relationship Circles to understand the different relationships we have with people around us. Students identified people in their lives, from family, to close friends and professional people.

Students began by identifying people connected to them and reflected on how relationships can grow and become stronger as we spend time together, communicate, listen to one another, and build trust. 

Through thoughtful discussions, students recognized that not everyone we know has the same role in our lives, and that meaningful relationships take time and care to develop.

The activity also encouraged students to consider their own role in building positive relationships. They discussed ways they can show kindness, respect, empathy, and responsibility towards others. 

Students shared examples of how listening carefully, expressing their feelings, helping others, and spending time together can strengthen their connections.

Through this activity, students reflected on the importance of trust, communication, listening, caring, and spending time together. They learned that relationships can change and grow as we get to know people better and build meaningful connections.

 

Sharing Our Ideas

Grade 2 students have been taking their learning one step further by using Canva to share their research about different types of relationships. After investigating what relationships are, who is involved, and how they are built and maintained, students transformed their research into creative presentations.

Working independently or with a partner, students designed either a poster or a book that would help others understand their chosen type of relationship. They carefully selected information, organized their ideas, and made thoughtful design choices so that their work would be clear, engaging, and easy for others to read and understand.

As students explored relationships, they began to recognize that they are connected to many different people and communities. Understanding these connections helped them see that they are part of something bigger than themselves. Their relationships influence how they think, feel, communicate, and respond to the people and world around them.

This inquiry is an important first step in developing self-awareness and a sense of belonging. By reflecting on their relationships, students are beginning to understand themselves more deeply and recognize the role they play in the lives of others.

Through this experience, our young learners are discovering that relationships connect us, communication helps us understand one another, and caring for these connections helps our communities grow.

In connection to Literacy, the students are beginning to write creative stories featuring characters who explore and explain their chosen types of relationships. Through their stories, they are applying what they have learned while developing their creativity and writing skills.

This creative story will be the first of many books that Grade 2 will publish throughout the school year, beginning their journey as young authors and storytellers

 

EXPLORING RELATIONSHIPS

How do we build relationships with other people?

How do our relationships change as we grow and learn about ourselves and others?

This week, Grade 2 students have been busy exploring an important question: 

How do people build relationships with others? 

As part of our Who We Are unit, students began investigating the different types of relationships we have in our lives and what makes each relationship meaningful.

Types of Relationships they have identified:

Family

Friendship

Community

Professional

Romantic

Team / Group

Nature - People

Animals - People

and 

Artificial Intelligence

Working with a partner, students developed their own questions to guide their research. They explored the definition of different relationships, the people involved, and how these relationships develop and grow. 

Their questions helped them become curious researchers as they searched for information and discussed their discoveries with their partners.

Students also looked closely at the important role of communication in relationships. They explored how people can share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through words, listening, body language, and actions. They began to understand that effective communication helps people feel heard, understood, and respected.

Through this inquiry, students discovered that relationships can be different, but they all require care and effort. They reflected on how trust, respect, listening, kindness, and communication can help build and maintain positive relationships.

It was wonderful to see our young learners asking thoughtful questions, sharing ideas, and learning from one another as they developed a deeper understanding of the relationships around them.
